Live, Laugh, Love: The Wedding

We were married on May 6th, 2007 at Trinity Church in Santa Monica. We enjoyed a relaxing, fun, blessed and all around incredible day with family and friends. Highlights of the festivities:

Rehearsal lunch at Casablanca on Lincoln. The homemade tortillas are amazing! That night, Katie was so thankful to spend her last “single” night with her post-college roommates and Alec enjoyed dinner with family.

The 1959 American Rambler we borrowed for our wedding day. The night before, we drove down to Ocean Avenue and parked to talk, pray together and enjoy the last moments as an engaged couple.

Katie getting to spend the morning hanging out at the 1920’s Embassy Hotel with her mom and bridesmaids.  We relaxed, primped (thank you Penelope and Damien!), ate, laughed and prayed for the day ahead. I (katie)  loved having a special moment with my former roommates crew – Cass, Kirsti, Joni, Melissa, Whitney and Lindsay (in spirit!). I was so thankful to share that morning with so many beautiful and loving friends.

Alec hanging out with his groomsmen in our “new” apartment (Luke Love, Joel McNayr, Sam Parmelee, Patric Rayburn, Josh Southern and Matt Ebeling). Both the girls and the guys took photos with our great friends and photographers, Robson and Bethany.

Ceremony details:

  • Our dear friend, Anthony, opening the day in prayer and getting the blessing from our amazing families.
  • Our adorable ring bearers and flower girls – Parker and Anthony, Leilani and Alannah
  • Worshiping to “From the Inside Out” and “How Great Is Our God” thanks to Michelle, Larry and Daniel
  • Colossians 3:15-17 read by Jill, a wonderful friend and wife of Luke, the best man.
  • “Till Kingdom Come” by Coldplay (excerpt) read by Hayley, one of Katie’s dearest friends.
  • Twelfth Night, Act 3, Scene 1 read by David, one of Alec’s college friends.
  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 read by Robert, one of Alec’s former roommates.
  • Being married by the amazing Rick Gibson, whose office we first began eyeing each other in!
  • Celebrating with gorgeous music from The Royal Tenenbaums, Brian Eno, Sigur Ros and Sufjan Stevens. (along with The Polyphonic Spree, Scissor Sisters and Ben Folds for fun ‘guest exit’ music!)
  • Having a photo book for friends and family to sign.
  • Laughing (when Parker dropped our rings during worship & when Alec almost pulled Katie off the altar as they exited!) and crying (Katie pretty much the entire way down the aisle!)
  • Katie waiting outside the church for her new hubby to pick her up in that adorable Rambler!

Reception details:

  • An old-fashioned candy bar (Katie’s favorite treat!)
  • The typewriter that Katie’s grandfather, Arthur, would type his sermons on, used to display a welcome by Alec and Katie.
  • Tables set with vintage cake stands (with a single cake to share with the table!) and votives used as placecards
  • Katie’s brother, Matt, blessing our meal.
  • The impromptu, but wildly entertaining “talk show” style speech given by Matron of Honor Becky and Best Man Luke.
  • First dance (“Stay With You” by John Legend) sung live by Larry and Daniel.
  • Katie’s dance with her dad, John, to “The Way You Look Tonight”
  • Alec’s hilarious dance with his mom, JoAnn, to “Let Your Love Flow”
  • Our wonderful friend Bob, as a non-cheesy, very endearing MC and “playlist” manager. Letting friends pick their next song to dance to.
  • Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of dancing!!!!
  • Honoring the couple married the longest (the Coates!) and blessing the one most newly married (the Davis’)
  • Singing “Happy Birthday” to Dorothy and embarrassing her with a basket of gifts from the girls.
  • Enjoying great dinner music (Motown, soul, dreamy dinner music) and huge variety of fun dance music.
  • Having an incredible evening with their closest family and friends!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who supported us on this special day! We thank God for blessing us with so many incredible people in our lives, and for bringing us together as best friends and husband and wife! We look forward to many more years together and sharing life with each of you!
